StormFilter Installation for Your MD, DC, or VA Business

The Contech Engineered Solutions Stormwater Management StormFilter® is a belowground stormwater treatment device designed to help your commercial building meet stormwater quality regulations. The system comprises one or more structures that house media cartridges capable of trapping particulates and absorbing pollutants from stormwater runoff. The StormFilter is an incredibly flexible and reliable stormwater treatment technology proven to help prevent contaminants from entering the public waterway.

Routine maintenance is required to keep these filtration devices functioning as intended over the long term. If you have a StormFilter system on your property, turn to iSTORMWATER for the services you need. We inspect and maintain a variety of belowground stormwater management facilities, including the Contech StormFilter.

Stormwater Management StormFilter Inspection

The goal of an inspection is to determine the level of sediment loading. A technician can check the vault interior without actually entering it because all visible indicators for maintenance are observable from the surface. A visual StormFilter inspection includes the following:

  • Noting the accumulation of liquids and solids
  • Recording the level of sediment buildup
  • Noting the flow of water per drainage pipe
  • Taking pictures for historical documentation
  • Making note of any local construction or erosion
  • Looking for any defects or problems that warrant maintenance or repair

How Often Should I Get a StormFilter Inspection?

The StormFilter is optimized to reduce long-term maintenance requirements to minimize the cost and hassle for you. Inspections and maintenance should take place at the following intervals:

  • Once a year: For compliance purposes, schedule an inspection no less than once per year.
  • During periods of dry weather: If an annual inspection reveals the need for maintenance, schedule a follow-up visit during a dry period. The average maintenance life cycle is one to five years.
  • Following major storm events: High flow rates and sediment accumulation during stormy weather may damage StormFilter units. For this reason, inspections are recommended after heavy rain to determine whether any maintenance is required.
  • After a chemical spill: An accident that sends chemicals pouring into the storm drain will quickly overload the StormFilter media cartridge. Restore proper functionality by inspecting and maintaining the filtration device after such an event.
  • More frequently if needed: Sites that develop known problems should be inspected more often than once a year. Develop a database for newly installed StormFilter systems or refer to an existing database to ensure you schedule maintenance based on the operating conditions of your site.

If it’s been more than a year since your last StormFilter inspection, contact iSTORMWATER to schedule a visit today.

Stormwater Management StormFilter Maintenance

On average, a StormFilter system needs maintenance every one to five years. This predictable maintenance interval results in fewer maintenance events and a lower life cycle cost than other filtration devices. It’s also possible to exchange cartridges for refurbished ones, lowering your costs even more.

StormFilter maintenance should take place during dry weather. Here are the steps our iSTORMWATER maintenance provider will perform during a visit to your facility:

  • Establish a safe working area
  • Remove the steel grate and diamond plate cover (weighing about 100 pounds each)
  • Disconnect each cartridge from the pipe manifold and install a lifting cap
  • Remove the cartridges from the catch basin by hand or with a vactor truck
  • Remove accumulated sediment from the cartridge bay via a vactor truck
  • Rinse the bay interior to remove any remaining water and sediment
  • Install new or refurbished cartridges and send the old ones to Contech for cleaning

Stormwater Management StormFilter Cartridge Exchange

When you need to replace StormFilter cartridges, iSTORMWATER can handle the cartridge exchange. Replacing worn cartridges will restore your system’s performance and give you the benefit of longer maintenance intervals. You’ll also reduce the risk of premature clogging, inadequate filtration, and costly StormFilter part replacements.

Incredible stormwater management service. The owner John consulted on a property I manage and ended up saving us thousands of dollars in environmental fees from the government. Now, our property is compliant with the EPA and we have a great partner to keep us maintained on storm water regulations over time.
